Health Access Network’s (HAN) ARRA Experience

A federal stimulus award in the amount of $207,430 was awarded to Health Access Network in March of this year.  This money came from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (“the stimulus package”) which contained $1.5 billion in funding for community health centers.  The impact of the federal stimulus package for HAN was the creation of seven jobs for our ambulatory and primary care services.  The specific jobs created and filled were two Medical Assistants, one Receptionist, one Medical Records Clerk, one Registered Nurse, one Physician and one EMR Specialist.  These positions assist with enabling HAN to respond to the rising patient demand as well as strengthening the local economy.

In a second round of ARRA funding, HAN was additionally awarded a Capacity and Improvement Project Grant in the amount of $696,390.00.  With the award of these funds HAN was able to expand and improve equipment and services in seven categories including lab, radiology, phone/communication, IT, clinical equipment, office furniture, and maintenance.  The equipment purchased has enabled our lab and radiology to offer additional testing at the point of service which in turn eliminates many barriers for our patients such as transportation, patient compliance, and finances.  In addition to upgrades and improvements the grant award has created three additional jobs, a Laboratory Technician, a Radiology Technician and a Maintenance Technician.

In difficult economic times it is rewarding that HAN can continue to offer excellent service and employment opportunity to the communities served.  The mission of HAN is to “make a difference in the lives of our patients and community by providing compassionate, high quality healthcare services focusing on the whole person, without financial or social discrimination.”  HAN seeks to continue improving access and quality of care in response to patient’s individual and unique needs, as well as community need.
