Though the price of gas has started to go down, some people are still having difficulty with longer distance transportation.  Whether you have an unreliable vehicle or are merely uneasy about driving long distances, getting to out of town appointments can be challenging.  Luckily, there are a few options available.

The Lynx Transportation program continues to offer medical rides for MaineCare eligible patients daily to Bangor.  Also, any person can ride with Lynx to Bangor on Mondays for a fee of $8-$14.  Call Penquis Cap at 1-866-853-5969 to enroll for these programs.  You will need to provide the dispatcher with information about yourself and where you live. To schedule a ride for the first time, you must call four full business days before you need a ride, and to schedule future rides, you must call two full business days prior to needing a ride.  The Lynx office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m..

The Elizabeth West Transportation program of Eastern Area Agency on Aging also may provide transportation for individuals to and from medical appointments.  This service was made possible through a generous endowment from Elizabeth West and is available to individuals 50 years or older who are not eligible for other transportation services offered.  All clients using this service are required to pay a cost share of the total cost of the ride.  Cost shares are determined through use of a sliding fee scale based on income and are used to help off set the cost of maintenance and repairs for the van.  If you would like to learn more about this service, please call 1-800-432-7812 or email info@eaaa.org.

In addition, Cyr Bus Lines offers a daily service, Monday through Friday, between Bangor and Limestone.  Cyr Bus Lines is a full service bus transportation organization who operates a fleet of very modern, luxury 54 and 46 passenger coaches.  To ride a Cyr bus to Bangor, you simply pay the bus driver the day you board the bus.  The bus picks up passengers at the Medway Irving at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 7:40 p.m. for $11.50 one way and $21.00 round trip.  The bus stops in Howland at the 95er at 10:05 a.m. and returns at 7:10 p.m. for $7.45 one way and $14.25 round trip.  You will arrive at the Bangor Concord Trailways in Bangor at 10:50 a.m. and the Bangor Grey Hound bus station at 11:10 a.m..  Round trip return tickets are valid for twelve months.  For additional information on Cyr Bus Line routes, call (800) 244-2335 or visit info@cyrbustours.com.  Once you arrive in Bangor, you can take the BAT Community Connector or a taxi to your final destination.  The BAT has several busses leaving both of these stations for a very low fair.  If you would like a bus schedule visit www.bangormaine.gov or call 992-4670.
