SAFE MEDICINE DISPOSAL FOR ME PROGRAM

Do you have unwanted or out dated prescription medicine in your home?  Luckily, Health Access Network is participating in the Safe Medicine Disposal for ME program. The University of Maine Center on Aging and its partners are coordinating this program to provide Maine's residents with a safe disposal option for unused and unwanted medicine. This program is the first of its kind in the country.

It is important to dispose of your unwanted or expired medicine safely.  This can help prevent:

medicine or a medicine that is too old to work well

Through grant funds from the United States Environmental Protection Agency's Aging Initiative and State funds, postage paid envelopes are being provided to Maine residents at participating sites like Health Access Network.  The envelopes are returned directly to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency where the returned drugs are cataloged and destroyed.

Please bring your unwanted medications to the nearest Health Access Network Site so we can assist you in disposing of them through the Safe Medicine Disposal for ME program. If you have questions about other sites that participate, you can call 1-866-ME-RX-RID

(1-866-637-9743) or visit www.safemeddisposal.com.  You can also call Tracey Cousineau at Health Access Network, 794-6700 or 1-866-426-4584.
