Coupons provide great savings

As the failing economy hits home, plenty of us are scaling back on eating out and even cutting back on groceries.  For many of us, groceries can be one of the greatest household expenses, but if you do a little research before your trip to the store, you may be able to cut 10% from your annual grocery bill. That can add up to hundreds of dollars in savings.

You may have read or seen stories of people who can go to the grocery store and walk out with more than $100 worth of products, having spent less than $5.  Oftentimes, manufacturers provide great deals for new products through coupons.  If you hold on to your coupon until the store also has a sale on the same item, you can often get it for nearly free. Some stores such as Shaw’s also allow you to use double coupons. If you do not have a store in your area that doubles coupons it may be worth visiting a town nearby that does. Take a friend because they may spot a deal that you may miss.

Also, consider clipping coupons for products you don’t normally use. Be aware, however, that generic food products are often made at the same companies that produce many of your favorite brand-name products. Use a calculator to add up the difference in using your coupon for a brand-name item versus buying a generic. Remember, just because you have a coupon does not mean you have to use it. Always use the method that will save you the most.

If you don’t know where to begin there are several web sites that allow you to print coupons and find helpful advice such as www.grocerysmarts.com, www.grocerysavingtips.com, www.grocerycouponnetwork.com, and www.couponmountain.com. Shaw’s also offers the coupons that are listed in the local newspaper online at www.shaws.com. If you do not have the internet, but would like coupons mailed to your home, you can call 1-800-437-0479.
