Lincoln - In response to service area need for increased access to primary care services, Health Access Network (HAN) is pleased to announce successful recruitment of a new full time physician to our service area.  Dr. Paulo Antunes will begin with HAN on August 1st at our Enfield site, and we are currently scheduling new patients.

Dr. Antunes graduated from the University of Ottawa in Ottawa, ON, Canada with a Bachelor of Sciences in 1997.  He is a 2003 graduate of the University of Autonoma of Guadalajara School of Medicine in Guadalajara, Mexico.  As part of the social service portion of his medical program, Dr. Antunes was required to give back to the community by providing medical services to the under-serviced areas.  He selected the clinic of Jalipa, a village of about 1500 people, which is in the outskirts of Manzanillo.  His work was to provide urgent and regular medical follow-up to the population.

Dr. Antunes is currently Chief Resident at Eastern Maine Medical Center’s Residency Program.  During his residency, Dr. Antunes worked with Dr. Eric Metzler at our West Enfield site.

When asked, Dr. Antunes stated the reason he chose HAN is that the organization is young and appears dynamic and willing to adapt to challenges quickly.  “I was first introduced to HAN when I first did a rotation as part of residency training with Dr. Eric Metzler.  Everybody was very welcoming, and it felt like it would be a good transition after residency.  What made the decision easier is that Dr. Sarah Irving is working with the organization.  I knew Dr. Irving while she was a resident and it was always a pleasure to work with her,” says Dr. Antunes.

“Dr. Antunes comes to us with excellent references.  He is very well liked by colleagues and patients alike, and I am confident he will be a good fit for our community and positive asset to our organization,” said Dawn Cook, CEO.

In his spare time, Dr. Antunes enjoys cooking, photography, soccer, road biking and mountain biking.

Dr. Antunes is looking forward to building a new practice and offering a full scope of family practice services. He will also participate in our Obstetrics service delivery along with Dr. Amin El-Mallawany and Dr. Sarah Irving.
